Background
Carclo Technical Plastics commissioned eg technology to develop their first connected drug delivery device using their proprietary technology of inkjet-printing flexible electronic circuits.
The Project
eg technology developed a wireless-enabled, metered-dose inhaler (MDI), with Carclo’s flexible circuit technology combining sensing, a printed antennae and the mounting of small and large electronic components in a 3D form.
The Results
The product implements a Texas Instruments Bluetooth Low-Energy (BLE) chip including a printed antenna and printed battery contacts. The MDI detects actuation of the dose canister and records a timestamp which can be downloaded over a wireless data link at the clinic. This connected technology addresses the complex problem of monitoring compliance, confirming dosing times and actuation.
