EIT Health Catapult
eg technology are pleased to announce the winners of the EIT Health Catapult award for the Most Innovative Product within the HealthTech category.
A jury of industry leaders, academics, and health innovation investors announced the winners of the 2023 EIT Health Catapult programme, last week. The winners were selected from nine of Europe’s highest-potential life science and HealthTech start-ups at the health.tech conference in Munich.
In addition to the recognition afforded the winners and finalists, eg technology and fellow EIT Health Catapult Industry partners AstraZeneca, AWS for Life Sciences, Nasdaq and Lusíadas Saúde, offered support to select participants and winners in specific categories.
As a sponsor of the award for the Most Innovative Product within the HealthTech category, eg have offered a total of 10 days’ worth of engineering expertise, shared amongst the winning three applicants, that can be used towards the realisation of their innovation.
The first prize was awarded to Plio Surgical, who will receive five days’ worth of engineering and development support with the eg technology engineering teams. Plio Surgical aims to improve colon cancer surgery with a minimally invasive device for safer closures. Their innovative surgical implant is laparoscopically deployed into the healthy lumen of the bowel, where its patented tissue anchors grip the inside walls of the intestine. The implant magnets then compress the tissue to create an anastomosis without the need for suturing. Once healed, the device then detaches and is passed naturally.
The runner up, receiving three days of development time with our team, was Medicud, who have developed a mechanically powered, incisional, negative pressure wound therapy device. Their single-use, ultraportable solution delivers constant negative pressure to reduce complications and improve the healing of surgical wounds.
Finally, in third place, receiving two days’ worth of eg technology development time, was Dymium, a game-changing medical system for the residue-free extraction of kidney stones. Using a biocompatible suspension to magnetise kidney stone fragments, stone fragments can be extracted magnetically without leaving residues.
”Once again the health.tech conference proved not only to be a fantastic event, through which I was able to meet with fellow industry professionals and start-ups, but also a great platform for the EIT Health Catapult finals. Selecting the three most innovative products was difficult due to the calibre of the 2023 cohort participants and their excellent pitches, but Plio Surgical, Medicud and Dymium are worthy winners! We are looking forward to working with them and helping them to further realise their innovation by leveraging our development expertise and providing them with a streamlined route to market.
